Project Overview:

CH2M Hill was retained by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to perform a redesign of the Rockaway Boardwalk, including an evaluation of the existing condition of the structures following Super Storm Sandy, design and preparation of plans to rebuild the Boardwalk in accordance with new NYC requirements to incorporate resiliency to enable the Boardwalk to withstand storm and tidal forces expected to impact the coastline in future years.

Distinct Engineering Solutions, Inc. (DESI) was retained by CH2M Hill to evaluate and report on the conditions of approximately 4,800 existing piles supporting the Boardwalk. DESI Adopted an unique method to evaluate existing piles using nondestructive testing techniques saving considerable money and time. DESI retained a pile driving subcontractor to restrike selected existing concrete piles and drive five new H test piles along the Boardwalk alignment. DESI will also be performed pile integrity tests for approximately 25% of the total existing pile bents. DESI provided the Pile Capacity Reports and determined existing pile depths.
