Project Overview:

Renovations to Madison Yard, located under the Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan are vital to the East Side Access Tunnel Project. Several tracks, crash walls, commissary areas were demolished and reconstructed to facilitate use by the LIRR.

Distinct Engineering Solutions, Inc. (DESI) has been retained by the Gramercy Group Inc. (GGI), to provide Health & Safety, Engineering and Construction Inspection Support including an evaluation of subsurface soil and rock quality.

DESI developed site specific Construction Safety & Health Plan and Safe Work Plans for various tasks undertaken by Gramercy.

DESI also prepared site design for utility relocation and demolition of elevator structures.

As part of NYSDOB special inspections and certifications, DESI verified the erection of forms, placement of rebar and concrete. ACI certified inspectors prepared concrete cylinders and cubes of mortar and grout for testing. DESI also verified the performance of structural steel bolt tests, Windsor Probe, soil compaction etc. In addition, the company assisted in value engineering, design demolition of elevators, and storm water line relocation.
