Project Overview:

The Berkshire Valley Road Bridge in Jefferson Township, Morris County, NJ, was being reconstructed across the Rockaway River. The $11-million project also included the expansion and realignment of the access road to the bridge. Distinct Engineering Solutions Inc. (DESI) performed geotechnical investigations, including retaining a drilling subcontractor and advance soil borings for the abutments and roadway embankment. The purpose of the investigations was to characterize the subsurface materials, perform geotechnical analyses including slope stability, develop design parameters for the design of foundations and retaining walls, and provide recommendations for earthwork. Foundation design work was performed in accordance with the NJDOT Design Manual.
