Project Overview:

New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has undertaken infrastructure redevelopment plans to improve the subway system along the west side of Manhattan. CCA Civil & Halmar International, LLC (CCA-Halmar) was contracted to complete the ventilation building construction at the Site L location. The project would incorporate construction of the ventilation building structure, access shafts, adits, and tunnel cross passage.

Distinct Engineering Solutions, Inc. (DESI) was retained to provide all environmental related support services and special inspection services. DESI performed soil borings and collected samples to characterize subsurface soil and groundwater, identified soil disposal facilities, managed waste and spoil disposal, and assisted with groundwater pretreatment system design. DESI also assisted with sustainability and waste management, ensuring practically most of the waste is reused, and compliance with DERA requirements.

DESI collected concrete and grout samples and performed compression tests, conducted steel welding and rebar inspections, inspected the shotcrete application process and provided shotcrete core laboratory testing services, performed tie-back anchor and rock bolt proof and performance tests. Work performed by DESI was reviewed and approved by a diverse project team of designers at MTA.
